Quote: History, Tragedy, & Violence

What happened 100 years ago may have been a tragedy but is not a valid excuse to commit heinous acts today.

If a Navajo Indian walked into an Arizona hotel lobby and killed a dozen white men in suits, but while he did so screamed for the revenge of his forefathers, what would we do as a society? Try him for murder and put him in prison. Done. The Navajo’s historical plight is not in question; the act of vengeance is. A Serb sniper in Sarajevo shooting children has no defenders except those who put history before people.
